What is Substance? What is matter?
My experience of the fractal complexities of the magnitudes of space. Thus space is not empty, nor is it nothingness. It is a deeply individual experiential continuum attributable to my sensor networks, my fractally entangled and fractally filamented mesh of sensory and computationally active nodes, meshes that react with and respond too an internal and external environment of dynamic fractal regions of space which as a complex, and at every scale I call substance, modified by an attendant process adjective or adverb.
The nearest I get to the totality of space is the model I construct of it iteratively every moment of my active individuating consciousness. The language and symbols and culturally derived rituals and paradigms I use are but one expression of my model and modelling of space, which is substance, which in totality is Shunya.
Proprioceptively the best cultural model of utilitarian principles has been that devised by Newton, but it is not the first, nor will it be the last, and metaphysically it focuses our computational attention on the fractal substance we call a vortex at all scales and in all parts, a dynamic model which resolves kinaesthetic forces, the auditory compressive and rarefacted soundsvisual electromagnetic phenomena of these forces, and the electromagnetic chemistry of these fractally regionalised forces into a complex iterative model of explanation of all our experiential continual, sequentially.
Newton sort the answer to these questions in Alchemy. He sought what he called Active Principles/ What he was not able to see was that he had isolated these active principles in his sie work Principia Mathematica that is The Principles of Astrology, usually sidelined as the Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy. In this work he outlines under inspiration the method of Analysis and Synthesis he used and recommended for Astrology, that is the study and calculation of the movements of the stars and planets. In this work he laid bare the essential meditation or metaphysics required by a philosopher who wished to understand the Majestic works of God, and therefore to give an answer to the many or innumerable questions that the god fearing inquiring mind may bring forth . Perhaps wittingly his formulation was heavily shaped by his alchemical research and experimentation. The metaphysical terminology for the active principles of force and velocity were radicalor radical revisions of more common metaphysical notions. The difference being that Newton, by his method of Fluents, arrived at these definitions as the resultant of a process of analysis using accepted Mechanical principles. Thus his definitions were essentially tautologies, but buried so deeply , at a small scale as to appear the causative factors inherent in substance.
Because of his Method of Fluents Newton certainly understood the iterative and recursive relationship between scales, but did not have the terminology Fractal to describe it. Instead he spoke of evanescent, and Ultimate ratios, the limits of processes ad infinitum, that is exhaustive processes. These processes are well illustrated in what is called the Newton method for calculating roots to any degree of exhaustion!
Thus Newton pursued substance to the ultimate conclusion that it lay in active principles concealed by God. His sickness brought about by mercury poisoning confirmed his feeling that he had gone far enough, Thu for Newton and all his students these active principles in substance lay just beyond the next iteration, and were truely nascent, fluid and penetrating of all quantitative magnitudes of space as form. The principle of curvaturewas distinct from the principle of tangential and thus a good line, which again , from Euclid was a principle of dual points or seemeioon. At this level all was fluid and dynamic, and hence his namee for this analysis the Method of Fluents .
The simple propositional and definitional and axiomatic and Lemmae layout was as influential as the principles he uncoverd, and soon found analogy in all aspects of science from Chemistry to Physics to Biology to Medecine and to Philosophy. Newtons method of model building, the philosophical analysis and synthesis he considered as sound was what he was most anxious to promote. The alternative of Hypothesis that is guessing "under the system", or second guessing according to a prior theory, he did not permit or promote. Rather a attention to empirical detail and iterative downsizing of measurement with empirical verification was how he proceeded to a final speculative conclusion in principle.
These speculative conclusiosn were, by fancy of the time , given the title Law or Axiom or Lemma, an Academic conceit weighing the relative importance of theorems and propositions. It was by the Grace of God, and the persuasion of his eminent colleagues wheter such conclusions should be granted the status of a Law of God and Nature!
In over 340 years of continuous scrutiny and development , Newtons principles have come to be regarded as such. Not even Einsteins Reworkings have reached that grand position.
It is clear, with Hindsight that Newton did not fully understand the incredible utility of his principlesacross all science particularly what we now call electromagnetism, but which he ventured as magnetism speculatively.
Newtons principles resolve an age old dynamic : that of pushing and pulling, of attraction and repulsion, of rigidity and fluidity even gaseousness, into contra forces of centrifugality and centipetality. These 2 forces themselves resolve into radial , tangential And circular forces. These contra forces are the very essence of vorticularity in space, and to these principles the principle of fractal scaling needs to be highlighted as inherent and clearly expressed in the Newtonian method of Fluents. One further principle due to Ed Lorenz completes the modern toolbox for analysis and synthesis. In due course I will get to Grassmann's principles as they rely on Lagrange's variation of Newton's principles, as do Hamilton's.
